Race To The MVP - 3rd Edition! « Thread Started on Sept 9, 2008, 2:59am »
1. Gilbert Arenas, SAC, G - 29.4ppg, 5.4rbg, 8.0apg, 2.21spg, 0.47bpg Leader of the Race To The MVP from last week, he is still undoubtably the best performer in the league up til now. No one can get close to what he has done in the past few weeks. It's amazing how he manages to do it again and again, with little or no sign of fatigue. However, with the Kings at 12-12, perhaps its time for the rest of the team to show what they are made of and make a push for a playoff spot. After all, basketball is a team game, but they have one of the best team players in their team so, why not?
2. Tony Parker, ATL, G - 25.8ppg, 4.2rpg, 6.6apg, 2.06spg, 0.12bpg Second consecutive point guard here after Arenas, but there is no denying that he is playing brilliantly, and the Hawks are playing well too, sitting pretty on top of their division with 14-8 record. Mr Longoria here did everything he could, but yet he is still outshined by a certain Agent Zero. In a world without Gilbert, Mr Tony Longoria will almost certainly top our charts this edition!
3. Tim Duncan, PHO, F-C - 23.4ppg, 10.9rpg, 3.0apg, 1.12spg, 1.94bpg Tim has definitely up the ante this edition. He scores and he rebounds and he play D very well, and the Suns are slowly climbing up the standings. Started the season not so brightly by his own high standards, but has since improved and now he is back to his best. And like hoopshype says, he will make a contender out of any team. That is certainly what the Suns are hoping for!
4. Yao Ming, HOU, C - 23.7ppg, 9.4rpg, 4.5apg, 1.05spg, 1.90bpg The Great Wall of China has awaken! Yao continues to contribute well on both ends of the floor for the Rockets but one has to wonder how long can he carry this team by himself. Always a effecient scorer, Yao has no problem executing that 16-18 foot jumper or that turn-around-hook that he is famous for. But despite playing well almost every game, the Rockets are still stuck in mediocracy.
5. Dwight Howard, NOH, C - 20.9ppg, 12.8rpg, 2.2apg, 1.65spg, 2.60bpg Dwight Howard is still largely putting up big numbers each game, but it was perhaps his bright start that outshadowed his recent performances. He started the saeson averaging 25 points and 15 rebounds, and this edition he deprove in all but one category- Steals-per-game ratio. Perhaps the addition of Redd has affected his play...
6. Kobe Bryant, GSW, G - 22.8ppg, 4.3rpg, 7.2apg, 1.60spg, 0.60bpg Kobe is still doing everything for the Golden State Warriors only this time there is Donyell Marshall to help with the scoring and rebounding. Should be a good pair, and they might just get GSW off the bottom of the league.
7. Steve Nash, DEN, G - 21.4ppg, 3.5rpg, 7.5apg, 1.76spg, 0.29bpg Captain Canada is an integral part of the Denver Nuggets line-up, leading in scoring, assists and steals.
8. Stephen Jackson, NYN, G-F - 22.6ppg, 6.5rpg, 3.3apg, 1.61spg, 0.61bpg Outshined Vince Carter throughout the whole season with his scoring prowess, a truly important player for the Knicks.
9. Amare Stoudemire, CHI, F-C - 19.5ppg, 11.6rbg, 2.3apg, 1.32spg, 2.16bpg Strong player for the Bulls, still outperformed the likes of Deng and Gordon, but only just.
10. Tracy McGrady, LAC, G-f - 20.3ppg, 7.2rbg, 4.9apg, 1.47spg, 0.74bpg Despite all his previous injury problems, is still one of the league best players when fit, and so far has managed to stay that way, starting all of the 19 games for Clippers this season.
Honourable Mention: Rasheed Wallace - 20.6 9.6 2.8 0.95 1.25 Allen Iverson - 20.8 3.7 6.6 2.00 0.50 Kevin Martin - 20.5 3.5 2.5 1.68 0.42 Shaquille O'Neal - 18.4 10.6 4.1 1.33 2.38 LeBron James - 18.5 7.7 5.8 1.85 1.05 Carlos Boozer - 19.0 9.8 2.5 1.35 0.60 Mike James - 20.0 3.9 5.7 1.48 0.19
note: KG is off because he just did not showed up after the trade to Utah. Brad Miller - 20.2 8.9 3.9 0.89 1.33
